The Art & Science of Scalp Care
Japanese scalp care is remarkable less for any single ingredient than for its precision: sequence, water temperature, pressure, timing. This chapter separates the therapeutic experience of the head spa from cosmetic scalp care and from evidence-informed scalp management.

Precision as a philosophy
Cleansing is treated as a technique rather than a step. Water temperature is controlled, pre-rinsing is long, product is emulsified before it touches the scalp, and massage follows a repeatable sequence. The result is thorough removal of sebum and residue without the roughness that usually accompanies it.
Tradition
Head and scalp massage has a long place in Japanese personal care, valued for comfort, tension release and ritual as much as for the condition of the hair itself.
Evidence
Massage plausibly increases local blood flow and reliably reduces perceived tension; evidence that it independently changes hair density is thin. Careful cleansing, however, measurably improves scalp condition where sebum load or product residue is a factor.
The Novaé approach
We adopt the technique, not the promise. Cleansing method, dwell time and water discipline are taught at consultation; the scalp treatment itself is positioned honestly as care and comfort alongside whatever protocol is actually indicated.
